National Training Conference: Study to Learn and Train to Apply

One of the greatest gifts we can receive is not simply knowledge, but the training to put that knowledge into practice. That spirit was felt throughout the recent National Training Conference, where believers from across the country gathered to study, train, reflect, and strengthen their commitment to faith, service, and community.  From the opening plenary session, a clear message emerged: study is essential to growth, and training prepares us to apply what we learn.

Student Minister Nuri Muhammad reminded attendees that one of the most recognized photographs of Master Fard Muhammad is not of a picture of him stepping onto the Mother Plane(smile), but of Him studying. That image serves as a timeless reminder that knowledge is the foundation upon which greatness is built.

Building upon that theme, Student Supreme Captain Mustapha Farrakhan delivered a powerful message about the necessity of consistent study"When we don't study," he explained, "we become weak believers. We start off as believers, but when we stop studying, we become skeptics.” We become lazy. His words challenged everyone in attendance to remain diligent students, emphasizing that faith must continually be strengthened through learning and application.

Brother Mustapha also reminded believers that our conduct represents our faith wherever we go.

"Wherever you are, the Mosque is."

His remarks served as a powerful reminder that each believer carries the responsibility of representing Islam with excellence, integrity, and righteousness every day.

He also expressed heartfelt gratitude for his mother, Mother Khadijah Farrakhan, describing her as a true example of a righteous woman. Her life continues to inspire others.

Student Minister Ishmael Muhammad further elevated the conference by reminding attendees of the divine purpose behind the Coming of Master Fard Muhammad—to raise a people and make them into gods through knowledge, discipline, and righteous living. He emphasized that the National Training Conference should never be viewed as just another gathering, but as a serious opportunity for spiritual growth and preparation.

Another memorable moment came during Jumu'ah Prayer, when Student Imam Sultan Muhammad challenged believers with a thought-provoking question:

"Are we practicing prayer, or are we merely performing it?"

His words encouraged deep self-examination. He also reminded the audience that one of the greatest acts beyond prayer and charity is making peace and amends among the believers. He emphasized that our first battle is with ourselves as we strive for Islam, and that faith in Allah gives believers the strength to overcome obstacles greater than self. He also spoke passionately about the importance of protecting and honoring women and reminded everyone that prayer remains the believer's first obligation.

The highlight of the conference was when the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan spoke.  He acknowledged the beautiful spirit of his late wife, Mother Khadijah Farrakhan, whom he described as "the Queen of his life."

The Minister reminded everyone about the value of their health. “Take care of the real house of God,” said The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan as he thanked each sensei who attended the recent National Training Conference.   He said, “I pray that God (Allah) will give you long life that you may continue to teach young people and old people to take care of their bodies, which is the real house of God. Take care of your diet which demonstrates your LOVE for the house that God wants to live in with you.” 

Beyond the powerful lectures and training sessions, attendees also enjoyed many enriching activities throughout the weekend. Highlights included an engaging youth panel addressing mental health, professional certification opportunities for both brothers and sisters, a vibrant vendor marketplace filled with businesses and organizations, and a spirited tournament on Sunday that brought participants together in fellowship and friendly competition.

Sister Yvette Muhammad (Baltimore) takes home 1st place in fighting and 2nd place in Kata. She is 66 years young.

As the conference concluded, one lesson remained clear: studying is not simply about acquiring information—it is about becoming transformed by what we learn. Knowledge without application has little value. The National Training Conference reminded us that believers are called to continually study, train, grow, and become living examples of the principles we profess.
