Acute Inflections: There Is Power in Love and Unity
There is something powerful about watching a husband and wife not only love each other, but work together, laugh together, serve together, and combine their gifts. That spirit of love and unity filled the room when Acute Inflections brought their unique musical experience to Raleigh. Acute Inflections is New York City's Jazzy R&B duo Elasea Douglas and Sadiki Pierre.
From the moment they began, the husband-and-wife duo made the audience feel like part of the show. They opened with a personalized song welcoming everyone to Raleigh, immediately setting the tone for an evening filled with beautiful music, laughter, and good energy.
Sadiki plays the bass while his wife, Elasea, brings the songs to life with her voice. Together, they created an intimate jazz experience that moved effortlessly from jazz classics to popular favorites. During the evening, you could hear music associated with everyone from Beyoncé and Rihanna to the unforgettable Nina Simone.
And if you didn't recognize a song? They had an answer for that, too.
“Don't be ashamed,” they joked. “You are just a victim of bad parenting.”
The audience laughed, relaxed, and enjoyed the beautiful jazz-club atmosphere. Yet underneath the humor and music was something even more meaningful: a demonstration of what can happen when two people pool their resources and talents.
With Elasea's family roots in Jamaica and Sadiki's roots in Trinidad, along with their experiences growing up in Queens and Brooklyn, Acute Inflections represents a beautiful blending of culture, creativity, marriage, and purpose. Their talents also extend beyond the stage.
During the evening, Sadiki shared a touching story from their work in the community. A young boy was asked to design his ideal neighborhood. He created a beautiful community, but surprisingly placed a prison in the center of it. When Sadiki asked why he would put a prison in the middle of such a beautiful neighborhood, the young man answered, “So we could all see our fathers.”
That answer reminds us why reaching back into our communities matters.
Acute Inflections uses its platform to do more than entertain. They work with community organizations and young people, and Sadiki also gives back through aviation as a flight instructor connected with the Tuskegee Airmen legacy. Their Raleigh performance reminded us that our gifts can entertain people, but our gifts can also serve people.
Perhaps one of the greatest lessons from Acute Inflections is the power of unity. A husband with one talent and a wife with another talent can decide not to compete, but to combine. They can pool their resources, creativity, experiences, and gifts to build something neither could create in quite the same way alone.
That is the power of love and unity.
Acute Inflections showed Raleigh that you can be talented and still have fun. You can build a business and still serve your community. You can be husband and wife and also be creative partners. Most importantly, you can use what God has given you to bring a little more joy, laughter, beauty, and hope into the world.
We certainly hope to see Acute Inflections return to Raleigh.
