Are You Ready for Wellness and Rejuvenation?

Most people fear the unknown. However, a group of students, faculty, staff, and community members stepped outside their comfort zones to explore the transformative power of meditation, breathwork, and self-reflection during the SKY Campus Happiness Premium Retreat at North Carolina Central University (NCCU).
Among the participants were two married couples, along with students, faculty, and staff seeking greater peace, balance, and personal growth. One husband shared that he decided to attend with his wife after witnessing the positive changes in his wife from practicing meditation.
Throughout the weekend, participants explored the four sources of energy(including food, sleep/exercise, breath, and a calm mind) and learned practical techniques for managing stress. Participants were given vegetarian meals because they put less stress on the body.
They also learned how being dutiful can improve their overall well-being. One particularly powerful lesson focused on personal responsibility. Participants were encouraged to reflect on how they feel when they take responsibility for their lives compared to how they feel when they do not. When we don’t take responsibility to do something we know we should do, it creates a burden on us.
Another important takeaway was the impact of complaining. Rather than remaining stuck in frustration, participants learned the value of acknowledging challenges and shifting their energy toward solutions and problem-solving.
The retreat provided more than relaxation techniques. It offered an opportunity to disconnect from everyday pressures, reconnect with oneself, and discover the importance of cultivating inner peace.

The uplifting weekend was organized by Dr. Megan Lyons and facilitated by SKY Campus Happiness wellness instructors Coach Harry and Coach Kamaria, who guided participants through meaningful discussions, meditation, and breathwork exercises. Special thanks to North Carolina Central University for opening its doors to students, faculty, staff, and community members for this enriching wellness experience. The weekend served as a powerful reminder that sometimes the first step toward rejuvenation is simply being willing to try something new. Peace begins within, and wellness is a journey worth taking.
